What is an advocate? According to the Random House Dictionary it is a person who defends, vindicates, or espouses a cause…publicly…a person who pleads for or in behalf of another. Simply put, if you would like to be an HD advocate you begin by publicly supporting the cause. Talk to your friends, your family, your church, or even your civic and social groups. Talk about the needs of HD persons, families and caregivers. This is how easy it is for you to become an advocate.
When you are ready to expand your advocacy, contact your local state and federal legislators by writing a letter or emailing. (Use the links below to locate information about your Representative or Senator.)
Write to your local newspaper’s editor. Especially if the paper has run an article about HD, let them know that you are one of their readers and support the HD cause.
